Make sure your elite benefits will count

A benefit counts only when the hotel, rate, booking channel, and tier all qualify.

Make sure the booking qualifies

Elite status helps only when the hotel participates, the rate is eligible, the booking channel qualifies, and your tier includes the benefit. A brand logo settles none of this on its own. Open the exact hotel page and the program terms before you put a value on breakfast, late checkout, lounge access, or an upgrade.

Match the property name and location first. Then check the rate, channel, and tier language. Marriott Bonvoy, IHG One Rewards, and World of Hyatt publish benefit information, but participation and availability still vary. If the official wording is missing or unclear, leave the benefit out of your calculation until the hotel or program confirms it.

  • 01Confirm the exact hotel and participating brand
  • 02Check that the rate and booking channel qualify
  • 03Read the current benefit and its availability language
02

Read the fine print literally

Programs distinguish between included benefits, benefits offered when available, property-level exclusions, and brand exceptions. Those words matter. “Subject to availability” is not a promise, and a general upgrade benefit does not tell you which room category you will receive.

Save the exact wording, URL, date, and tier. A screenshot is useful for your records, especially before a trip, but the live official terms still control if the program changes them.

03

Check again while you can still change plans

Check before booking, before the free-cancellation deadline, and again before arrival. The middle check is the valuable one: you can still move the stay if a benefit has changed or the booking no longer qualifies.

Make sure your loyalty number appears on the reservation, particularly after a date or room change. If you booked through an intermediary, ask whether the channel earns points or status credit. Do not infer eligibility from the hotel’s participation alone.

  • 01Save the hotel and program links with the reservation
  • 02Recheck before the cancellation deadline and arrival
  • 03Ask the hotel or program when eligibility remains unclear
04

Know what the evidence covers

An official hotel page supports the property facts. An official program page supports the general loyalty rules. Neither can confirm an account-specific rate, award night, upgrade, or benefit for future dates.

Use the sources below to begin the check. Make the final decision from the live inventory and terms shown for your account and booking.
