Wyndham Rewards

Fixed award bands make Wyndham the easiest program here to plan against, though the bands themselves change on September 15, 2026.

The program in brief

Wyndham still publishes fixed award bands. They change on September 15, 2026. Through September 14, Go Free awards cost 7,500, 15,000, or 30,000 points per bedroom per night. From the 15th the bands become 5,000, 15,000, 30,000, and 45,000, so the cheapest awards get cheaper while the ceiling rises.

The portfolio is the other half of the story. Wyndham reported about 8,400 hotels in roughly 100 countries in June 2026, weighted heavily toward roadside and midscale coverage, with selected upscale, resort, and vacation products alongside. Many eligible paid stays earn at least 1,000 points, and on a cheap night that floor does more work than any elite bonus.

Strengths

  • Fixed award bands, with the September change published in advance
  • A 1,000-point floor on many eligible paid stays
  • Roadside and everyday coverage few chains match
  • Gold at five nights, plus rollover-night rules

Trade-offs

  • The award bands change on September 15, 2026
  • The earning base differs by brand and by folio definition
  • Two separate expiry risks: four-year lots and inactivity forfeiture
  • Card award discounts depend on the exact product and opening date

Reading the marks

A green check means the brand participates on the program’s standard terms. Marked brands don’t — earning, status, or redemption works differently there.

Before you book

ECHO Suites does not participate. Caesars co-brands, WaterWalk stays, Super 8 stays in China, and one excluded Wyndham Concorde property follow special rules.

Outside the count

ECHO Suites does not participate. Ramada Encore belongs to the Ramada brand.

  • ECHO Suites Extended Stay by Wyndham — does not participate
  • Ramada Encore — part of Ramada

Status

The status ladder

Where a program offers several routes to the same tier, the routes usually stand alone rather than combining, which matters a great deal if you were counting on two of them adding up.

The rules, in table form

Rates and thresholds move. An individual hotel can also sit outside the standard rules entirely, whatever the program-wide table says, and that’s the usual reason a benefit that looks guaranteed here never shows up at check-in. Confirm the current terms and your hotel’s participation before booking.

Strategy

How earning and status actually work

01 · Who it suits

The everyday end of the map

Days Inn, Super 8, Microtel, Howard Johnson, Travelodge, La Quinta, Ramada, Wyndham, Trademark Collection, Registry Collection, and the rest add up to coverage in markets the upscale chains never bothered with. Vacation-club properties, the Caesars relationship, and certain property types follow separate participation rules.

The program works best when the hotel already suits the trip and a fixed award band or the paid-stay minimum improves what it costs you. Weigh location, condition, fees, cancellation, and the cash alternative first. A simple award chart is a convenience, not a reason to stay somewhere.

02 · Earning

The 1,000-point floor

Most brands earn 10 points per eligible US dollar of qualifying room rate. Selected full-service brands calculate on qualifying total folio instead, and WaterWalk furnished suites earns 5 per eligible dollar. Gold, Platinum, and Diamond add 10%, 15%, and 20% to Base Points.

The number that matters most, though, is the floor. Many qualifying paid stays receive at least 1,000 total points through Additional Points, which on an inexpensive room is worth more than any elite bonus you could earn on it. The minimum does not apply to points-and-cash awards, and brand, rate, channel, property, and charge exclusions still stand. Work out eligible spend first, then apply the minimum only where the current rules allow it.

03 · Using points

Which chart applies depends on your dates.

Two charts are in play this year. Through September 14, Go Free bands are 7,500, 15,000, and 30,000 points, and Go Fast starts at 750 points plus cash. From September 15, Free Night bands become 5,000, 15,000, 30,000, and 45,000, with Points + Cash floors of 500, 1,500, 3,000, and 4,500. Earlier-price reservations are honored, and Wyndham says a difference is returned automatically when the new price is lower.

Property-specific availability, cancellation, no-show, bedroom count, and fee rules still control the booking. Eligible cardholders may receive an award discount, but the percentage depends on exact product and, for some products, opening date. Confirm which one you hold before you apply any discount to the math.

04 · Status

Five nights to Gold

Gold begins at five qualifying nights, Platinum at fifteen, and Diamond at forty. The first rung sits within reach of ordinary travel. Published benefits include preferred rooms, late or early arrival treatment, and selected suite-upgrade or amenity treatment, all within participation and availability limits.

Qualifying nights can roll over under detailed rules, and the current status duration is more generous than a simple calendar-year expiry. Read the official level terms before you build a rollover strategy. One trap in particular: an award night can qualify as a night without earning any points.

05 · Keeping points active

Points can expire in two ways.

Each point lot generally expires four years after posting. Separately, a member can forfeit the balance after approximately—but never less than—18 consecutive months without balance-changing earn, redeem, or transfer activity. Both clocks run at once, and satisfying one does nothing for the other.

Member-to-member transfers are generally prohibited. Selected travel conversions begin at published minimums and current partner ratios, and incoming bank partners vary by country, so check the live selector rather than a ratio you remember from last year.

06 · Our take

Simple to plan, on the right kind of trip

Fixed award bands make this the easiest major program to plan against, and the 1,000-point earning minimum quietly does a lot of work on inexpensive paid nights. Neither advantage requires you to be a frequent guest.

The September 2026 change raises some awards and lowers others, so date every comparison you make this year and keep an existing booking until you understand how repricing affects it. Underneath that sits the same caution as ever: the chart is easy to read — not a reason to book a hotel that doesn't suit the trip.

In practice

From qualifying to checking out

Qualifying for a tier and getting real value out of it are different problems, and the habits that solve one won’t help much with the other. The notes run in that order.

01

Field note 01

A network built along the road

Wyndham's strength is frequency rather than any narrow definition of luxury. Days Inn, Super 8, Microtel, Howard Johnson, Baymont, AmericInn, La Quinta, Wingate, Ramada, and Wyndham Garden give the program substantial roadside and everyday coverage. Above them sit Wyndham, Wyndham Grand, Dolce, Trademark Collection, Registry Collection, Vienna House, and Wyndham Alltra, which extend the range into full-service, distinctive, and resort stays.

About 8,400 hotels is useful scale. It isn't a promise that all of them behave the same way. Travelodge participates only in the United States, Canada, and Mexico; ECHO Suites does not currently produce Qualified Stays or points at all; named individual hotels can be excluded outright. Club resorts, cottages, vacation rentals, condos, Caesars properties, and redemption-only destinations each follow their own sections of the rules, which is where most of the surprises live.

  • Check the hotel on Wyndham's own site and read its reward inventory before comparing programs.
  • Vacation products are separate redemption systems, especially where bedroom count drives the price.
  • Use Wyndham where the hotel already wins on location, condition, and total cash cost.
02

Field note 02

What counts as a Qualified Stay

A Qualified Stay generally consists of consecutive nights at a participating hotel, booked through Wyndham's website, app, reservation center, brand channel, or the hotel, with at least US$25 in eligible rate. Some traditional agency bookings can qualify too, when they are connected correctly. On the member's side the requirements are simple enough: include the number at booking, occupy a room, pay the eligible charges.

Excluded are OTA reservations, airline-crew contracts, wholesale allotments, complimentary stays, and many tour arrangements. A few cases fall in between. Points + Cash counts toward status but is not a Qualified Stay for the usual earning calculation, and a charged no-show can earn Base Points without producing a qualifying night. Most of the account entries that look inconsistent at first glance turn out to be one of these distinctions doing its job.

  • Keep the direct confirmation and final folio until the activity posts.
  • Verify that the total eligible room rate reaches US$25; taxes will not rescue a lower rate.
  • For Caesars and destination products, follow the exact booking path named in the terms.
03

Field note 03

Why a cheap room earns better than the rate suggests

Most brands earn 10 Base Points per eligible US dollar of room rate, so a US$60 room calculates to 600 Base Points and then gets lifted to 1,000 through Additional Points, provided the stay qualifies. The floor is what makes a short, inexpensive night more productive than the headline rate implies. It does not extend everywhere: Points + Cash and a partner-currency election both fall outside it.

The base itself varies by brand. Dolce, Wyndham Grand, Wyndham, and Wyndham Garden use eligible total folio rather than room rate alone; WaterWalk furnished suites earns 5 points per dollar, and unfurnished arrangements earn nothing. On top of whatever the brand produces, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond add 10%, 15%, and 20% to Base Points on Qualified Stays. Up to three paid rooms can earn points, although only the room the member occupies produces a qualifying night.

  • Calculate eligible spend first, then apply the minimum if the stay qualifies for it.
  • Do not multiply the entire folio unless the brand's rules expressly allow it.
  • Compare a cheap one-night direct rate against its OTA alternative only after valuing the 1,000-point floor honestly.
04

Field note 04

Five nights to Gold, forty to Diamond

Gold arrives after five qualifying nights and brings a 10% Base Point bonus, preferred-room treatment within the booked category, and up to two hours of late checkout when available. Platinum at fifteen adds a 15% bonus, early check-in by up to two hours, and an eligible one-class upgrade with selected rental-car partners at participating US and Canadian airport locations.

Diamond requires forty qualifying nights, and its benefits split into two kinds. The 20% bonus is straightforward and applies wherever Base Points do. Suite upgrades and the welcome snack or beverage are much narrower, since they depend on a participating hotel, on available inventory, and on the named brands that offer them at all. Diamond can also gift Gold under the current program. Free Night and Points + Cash stays advance status too, even though they do not behave like ordinary Qualified Stays for earning.

  • Value early arrival and late departure only where they change a real itinerary.
  • A preferred room can still be in the booked category. It is not a suite promise.
  • Read the amenity and upgrade lists before expecting Diamond treatment at every flag.
05

Field note 05

Rollover nights

Qualifying nights above the amount used for the member's current tier can roll into a later qualification year under Wyndham's published process. Rather than expiring on a simple annual schedule, they stay banked until something applies them. The account display is the best record of how many rollover nights are available and how many were consumed during requalification.

This changes end-of-year planning more than it first appears. A traveler who cannot realistically reach Diamond this year may still gain from a few extra direct stays if those nights improve next January's starting position. None of that justifies a bad hotel or a large price premium, because the value being bought is only earlier access to a tier the traveler would have reached anyway.

  • Record the account's qualifying and rollover balances before December activity closes.
  • Multiple paid rooms do not create multiple rollover nights.
  • Rollover is a planning aid, not a reason to buy nights you don't need.
06

Field note 06

Fixed bands cut both ways

Through September 14, Free Nights cost 7,500, 15,000, or 30,000 points per bedroom. Because the bands do not rise with the cash price on a busy weekend, a low-band hotel charging a high all-in rate is where the chart pays; the same structure quietly wastes points when a 30,000-point hotel happens to be cheap that week. The arithmetic runs the same way in both directions: divide the cash cost genuinely avoided by the points required, counting only the money a traveler would really have spent.

At ordinary participating hotels, a Free Night generally covers the room, local taxes, and resort or facility fees, though incidentals remain the guest's problem. All-inclusive awards include the property's defined meal and amenity package for up to two registered guests; additional guests can change the economics. Vacation homes, cottages, and condos price every bedroom, which is how a nominal 15,000-point rate becomes several times that amount before anyone has looked twice.

  • Search low-band hotels on the expensive dates first.
  • Count the covered taxes and fees as part of the cash value avoided.
  • Bedroom count, minimum stay, cancellation, and guest charges all need checking before a vacation product is reserved.
07

Field note 07

Before and after September 15

On September 15, 2026, Wyndham moves to 5,000, 15,000, 30,000, and 45,000-point Free Night bands, and Points + Cash floors become 500, 1,500, 3,000, and 4,500 points plus cash. Wyndham's own description is that many hotels will stay near their current position, others will move up or down, and a small number of elevated properties will enter the new 45,000 band. In other words, the property-by-property mapping is not public yet, and no outside source can say where a specific hotel will land.

Reservations made before the change are honored at the booked amount, and if a pre-change booking falls to a lower rate after redistribution, Wyndham says the points difference will be returned automatically. That asymmetry favors booking early where plans are firm and the hotel looks likely to move up, since the downside is refunded and the upside is locked. Hotels that look likely to move down are worth watching rather than rushing. Cancellation, as always, follows the hotel's own reservation policy.

  • Date every displayed award price until the transition is complete.
  • Keep existing reservations while checking post-change pricing rather than canceling first.
  • The 5,000- and 45,000-point bands are not live until September 15.
08

Field note 08

Two expiration clocks

Wyndham can forfeit a balance after roughly eighteen months without a transaction that changes it through earning, redemption, or transfer. Separately, each point lot normally expires four years after it posts. Those two rules do different work, and members regularly conflate them: creating activity satisfies the inactivity rule but does nothing to renew an old lot past its hard date. Under the general terms an account can also be closed after extended inactivity.

General member-to-member transfers are prohibited. Caesars Rewards transfers are normally one-to-one in 10,000-point increments, with a standard annual ceiling of 30,000 points in each direction, and they can take several weeks to complete. Wyndham's public Caesars page has retained expired promotional language, so the current general terms should control unless a new dated offer is visibly active.

  • Track the age of large deposits as well as the date of last activity.
  • Redeem older points first, where the account history makes lot order visible.
  • Start a Caesars conversion early, and never rely on promotional limits past their printed end date.
09

Field note 09

The Earner cards, and what a discount is really worth

The US Earner portfolio announced June 17, 2026 ranges from a no-fee product with Gold and a 10% Free Night discount to the $395 Premier card with Diamond, a 25% discount, anniversary points, and protection from point expiration while the card remains open and in good standing. Business, Plus, and legacy cards carry their own percentages and dates.

One quirk surfaces at the booking screen: Wyndham's online system can require the full pre-discount award balance even though fewer points will ultimately be deducted, so a cardholder holding only the discounted amount may have to call. Past that, the discount does lift redemption value materially. Annual fees, issuer eligibility, anniversary conditions, and the overlap with status the traveler would earn anyway all belong in the same calculation. No referral offer is assumed here.

  • Confirm the exact card product and opening date before applying any discount.
  • If an online award fails, compare the balance against the undiscounted band and call Wyndham.
  • Value status once. Counting the same benefit as both a card feature and an earned-tier gain inflates the answer.
10

Field note 10

Putting the pieces together

Use direct inexpensive stays to exploit the 1,000-point minimum, and let rollover nights smooth out an uneven travel year. Search the lowest award band on high-demand dates, then compare every result against the all-in refundable cash rate. The fixed chart is valuable precisely because it can diverge from price, and that same divergence is why it deserves restraint in the weeks when cash rates are soft.

Until September 15, book with both charts open. A hotel that looks likely to move up is worth securing when the plans justify it; every booking is worth rechecking after redistribution. Protect the balance against both expiration clocks while you are at it. Wyndham does its best work when broad coverage, low-band inventory, and a trip the traveler already needed happen to land in the same reservation.

  • Book direct, attach the number, keep the folio.
  • The September change is a repricing exercise, not an invitation to speculate.
  • Keep points for high-cash dates and pay cash when the fixed band is plainly expensive.

What changed

  1. Four Free Night bands begin

    Wyndham will replace the 7,500 / 15,000 / 30,000 chart with 5,000 / 15,000 / 30,000 / 45,000 points per bedroom and redistribute hotels across the bands.

  2. Points + Cash floors change

The announced floors become 500, 1,500, 3,000, and 4,500 points plus cash, aligned with the four Free Night bands.

  3. New US Earner card suite launched

Barclays and Wyndham introduced Premier, updated Business, Plus, and no-fee products with differentiated status, award discounts, anniversary points, and category earning.

  4. Current award chart remains active

Until the September effective date, Free Nights still price at 7,500, 15,000, or 30,000 points and Points + Cash starts at 750 points plus cash.

Calculators

What’s any of this worth?

Each of these takes numbers only you have: the cash price you were quoted, and the award price for the same room on the same dates. For the last two cards you’ll also need an honest figure for what a benefit is worth to you, not what it lists for. Every default here is a placeholder.

01 · Award value

Should you use rewards?

Take the cash price you were quoted, the reward price for the same room, and any fee that survives the award booking; what comes back is what each reward is actually buying you.

Common questions

Answers here reflect the sources and the review date at the top of this page. Promotions come and go, hotels drop in and out of participation, and whether a benefit actually shows up still depends on the property in front of you.

01What is a Wyndham Qualified Stay?

It is generally a consecutive stay at a participating hotel booked through an eligible Wyndham or hotel channel with at least US$25 in qualifying rate. The member must meet the occupancy and payment rules. OTAs, many wholesale rates, complimentary nights, and Points + Cash are not Qualified Stays for standard earning.

02How does the 1,000-point minimum work?

If an eligible Qualified Stay calculates below 1,000 points, Wyndham can add points to reach 1,000. Points + Cash and partner-currency elections are excluded. The rule applies per stay, so consecutive nights at one hotel are not separate minima.

03Does Wyndham earn on the room rate or the entire bill?

Most brands earn on eligible room rate. Dolce, Wyndham Grand, Wyndham, and Wyndham Garden use eligible total folio. WaterWalk furnished suites earns at a lower rate, and excluded taxes, fees, or outlets remain outside either calculation.

04Do Free Nights and Points + Cash nights count toward status?

Completed eligible Free Night and Points + Cash stays can produce qualifying nights. Free Nights do not earn Base Points. Points + Cash can earn Base Points on the eligible cash room component but does not receive the elite accelerated bonus.

05What does a Wyndham Free Night cover?

At a standard participating hotel, it generally covers the room, local taxes, and resort or facility fees. Incidentals remain. All-inclusive, Caesars, cottage, condo, and vacation products have product-specific inclusions.

06Are Wyndham awards dynamically priced?

No. Wyndham uses fixed property bands rather than changing the points price with the nightly cash rate. Hotels can be reassigned to a band, and inventory or minimum-stay controls still apply.

07What changes on September 15, 2026?

Free Night bands become 5,000, 15,000, 30,000, and 45,000 points per bedroom. Points + Cash floors become 500, 1,500, 3,000, and 4,500 points plus cash. Before that date, the 7,500, 15,000, and 30,000 chart remains active.

08What happens to an award booked before the September change?

Wyndham says it will honor the booked price. If the hotel moves lower, the points difference is to be returned automatically. Any cancellation still follows the hotel's reservation policy.

09How do rollover nights work?

Qualifying nights beyond those used for a tier can remain in the account for future qualification under Wyndham's rules. Only the member's occupied room counts, even when the member earns points on additional rooms.

10Do Wyndham points expire after eighteen months or four years?

Both. An inactive account can lose its balance after roughly eighteen months without a balance-changing transaction, and separately, each point lot carries a normal four-year hard expiration that ordinary activity will not extend.

11Do ECHO Suites and Travelodge participate?

Only partly. Travelodge participates in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and nowhere else; ECHO Suites currently earns no Wyndham Rewards credit at all. Individual-property exceptions can apply on top of both.

12Can Wyndham points transfer to Caesars Rewards?

Yes, under the current linked-account rules. The standard ratio is one-to-one in 10,000-point increments with a normal annual limit of 30,000 in each direction. Processing can take weeks, and a dated promotion may temporarily differ.
