Reviewed July 14, 2026 against Hilton Honors' current terms, benefit pages and 2026 FAQ. Hilton reported more than 9,200 properties in 144 countries and territories for its corporate portfolio in the first quarter of 2026; an older Honors fact sheet still carries smaller figures. Participation, upgrade inventory, breakfast, credits, lounges and resort treatment remain brand- and property-specific.

Earning
Base earn changed at two familiar brands in 2026
Hilton Base Points remain redeemable, but they no longer serve as a status currency. Elite bonuses multiply the Base Points earned at the property's rate.
| Hotel or charge | Base earn | 2026 treatment | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most Hilton portfolio brands | 10 Base Points per eligible US$1 | Tier bonus applies to Base Points | Eligible room rate and qualifying room-billed charges; taxes and unaffiliated outlets are excluded |
| Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Spark, Tru and Apartment Collection | 5 Base Points per eligible US$1 | Homewood and Spark bookings made before January 8, 2026 retain 10x under the transition rule | Home2 Suites properties in China currently earn 10x under the terms |
| LivSmart Studios | 3 Base Points per eligible US$1 | Plus 3,000 Bonus Points after every ten nights completed within the same stay | Breaking one stay into separate reservations does not necessarily create separate stays |
| Up to four rooms | Eligible Base Points can be earned on as many as four rooms when folio rules are met | Status stay and night credit is limited to one room | The member must satisfy payment, occupancy and account-record requirements |
| Reward stay incidentals | Eligible hotel charges can earn points; an all-points room has no cash room rate to earn on | Reward nights count toward status | Points & Money earns only on its eligible cash spend, not the redeemed-point portion |
Hilton marketing sometimes displays the total after a tier bonus. Keep the Base Point rate, elite percentage and final earn as separate lines so a 5x brand is not mislabeled as a higher base rate.
Status
Hilton rebuilt qualification around spend in 2026
Members can reach Silver, Gold or Diamond by stays, nights or eligible spend. Diamond Reserve has two routes, but both require US$18,000 in eligible annual spend.
| Tier | 2026 qualification | Point bonus | Benefits that need exact reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver | 4 stays, 10 nights or US$2,500 eligible spend | +20% | Fifth night free on eligible awards, standard Wi-Fi and selected bottled-water/spa benefits |
| Gold | 15 stays, 25 nights or US$6,000 eligible spend | +80% | MyWay food-and-beverage credit or continental breakfast by region and brand; space-available preferred-room upgrade at eligible brands |
| Diamond | 25 stays, 50 nights or US$11,500 eligible spend | +100% | Premium Wi-Fi, eligible Executive Lounge access, space-available upgrade up to a junior, standard or one-bedroom suite, and restricted 48-hour paid-room guarantee |
| Diamond Reserve | 40 stays + US$18,000 spend, or 80 nights + US$18,000 spend | +120% | Guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout at participating hotels, Premium Club access, dedicated service and one Confirmable Upgrade Reward on qualification |
Status normally lasts for the remainder of the earn year and the following calendar year. Base Points no longer qualify status, and excess 2026 nights do not roll into 2027.
Redemption
Standard-room inventory unlocks Hilton's best award rules
| Award type | Pricing | Fifth night and fees | Planning rule |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard Room Reward | Dynamic point price for the hotel's defined standard room | Silver and above receive every fifth night free on consecutive all-points stays; resort fees are waived on all-points rewards | Confirm that the room is labeled Standard Room Reward, not merely the least expensive cash room |
| Premium Room Reward | Dynamic point price for premium accommodation | No fifth-night-free benefit | Premium pricing can be disproportionate; compare with a paid upgrade or a different property |
| Points & Money | Flexible mix, generally in 1,000-point increments beginning at 5,000 points | No fifth-night-free and no universal resort-fee waiver | Calculate value on the points saved versus cash added, not against the all-points headline |
| Card Free Night Reward | Issuer certificate used for an eligible standard room under certificate terms | Not part of an all-points five-night sequence | Expiry, weekend restrictions if any, participating-property list and booking process come from the certificate terms |
| Reward cancellation | Hotel's published cancellation window governs | Points may return while a late cancellation or no-show produces a one-night cash charge | Save the exact deadline in the hotel's local time |
No blackout dates means Standard Room Rewards can be booked when qualifying standard inventory is open. It is not a promise that every date or every room type will be available for points.
Milestones
Nights still matter after a member qualifies
| Threshold or rule | Current reward | Critical boundary |
|---|---|---|
| 40 nights | 10,000 Milestone Bonus Points; another 10,000 every ten nights through 180 | Only eligible nights for one room count toward Milestone Bonuses |
| 60 nights | Usual 10,000 plus a one-time 30,000 points; ability to gift Gold status | The gift is a separate milestone and follows Hilton's recipient rules |
| 100 nights | Usual 10,000 points and ability to gift Diamond status | Do not confuse gifted Diamond with Diamond Reserve |
| 120 nights | Usual 10,000 plus a choice of 30,000 points or one Confirmable Upgrade Reward | A Diamond Reserve member can earn a second Confirmable Upgrade Reward here |
| Confirmable Upgrade Reward | Confirm at booking up to an eligible one-bedroom suite for one room and a stay of up to seven nights | Only listed brands and properties participate; certificate expires after 12 months and checkout must precede expiry |
| Lifetime Diamond | Ten completed Diamond years plus 1,000 paid/reward nights or US$200,000 lifetime eligible spend | Years need not be consecutive; Diamond Reserve has no separately published lifetime tier |
| Point pooling | One member plus ten contributors; send 500,000 and receive 2,000,000 per year across transfers and pools | Six one-to-one transfers and six pool transactions per member per year; new-account seasoning applies |
The maximum current Milestone Bonus is 210,000 points through 180 eligible nights. Hilton's FAQ and terms should be preferred over older articles that stop the sequence earlier.
How it works
Earning, status, and awards.
01 · Who it suits
Coverage is Hilton's advantage.
The portfolio supports many trip types and price points, so Hilton works well for travelers who want a familiar program across regions. Before concentrating stays, check the brands and properties in your actual destinations and compare their cash prices with suitable independent alternatives.
The 2026 qualification model matters: stays, nights, and eligible spend are separate routes. Older explainers that focus on Base Points as an elite threshold are out of date. Track each route independently and let the first completed route determine qualification.
02 · Earning
Check the brand's base rate.
Most Hilton brands award 10 Base Points per eligible US dollar. Homewood Suites, Home2 Suites, Spark, Tru, and Apartment Collection currently award 5, while LivSmart Studios uses a distinct 3-point base rate plus a long-stay bonus under its rules. Homewood and Spark reservations made before January 8, 2026 retain the former 10-point rate under Hilton's transition rule, and Home2 Suites in China currently remains at 10. Elite bonuses are 20% for Silver, 80% for Gold, 100% for Diamond, and 120% for Diamond Reserve.
Enter only eligible spend and the correct brand rate. Leave taxes, excluded charges, ineligible rates, card multipliers, and temporary promotions out of the base estimate.
03 · Using points
Compare every award with cash.
Hilton award prices vary with property, date, demand, room type, and other commercial inputs. Compare a Standard Room Reward with the same room and cancellation policy for cash. If an award uses points and money, enter every remaining charge rather than treating it like an all-points booking.
Elite members receive every fifth night free on eligible all-points Standard Room Rewards of five or more consecutive nights, up to four free nights in a 20-night stay. It does not apply to Points & Money, premium rooms, paid stays, or packages. Current terms also waive resort fees on all-points reward stays, not automatically on Points & Money.
04 · Status
Gold can add breakfast or a food credit.
Gold adds a food-and-beverage credit or breakfast benefit and stronger room treatment. The exact benefit depends on region, brand, property, and current policy. Diamond adds higher priority and lounge-related treatment where the benefit and facility exist.
Diamond Reserve requires heavy travel and spend. Its two qualification routes combine 40 stays or 80 nights with US$18,000 of eligible spend. A traveler who reaches the nights but not the spend has not qualified. Excess nights earned during 2026 do not roll into 2027; the former rollover rule ended with the 2026 redesign.
05 · Keeping points active
Pooling makes small balances useful.
Hilton allows members to pool points with up to ten other members under current transaction, account-age, annual-send, and annual-receive limits. That can consolidate several small balances for a real booking without a per-point transfer charge.
Current terms provide a 24-month inactivity window, but official wording about qualifying activity has changed over time. Do not assume an action reset expiry unless the current terms enumerate it and the transaction has posted. Record the date and retain confirmation for a balance you care about.
06 · Our take
Hilton is a dependable all-rounder.
Hilton Honors works for a wide range of travelers because its hotels are easy to find and household pooling is useful. Gold can improve many stays, although the benefit changes by region and brand.
Treat each reward as a fresh cash comparison. Use the fifth-night and resort-fee benefits only when the booking qualifies, and earn status through the route your existing travel supports. A large Hilton balance is useful; it does not make every award a good one.
Playbook
Earning and redemption, in practice.
Qualification, booking, and redemption call for different decisions. Here is how to handle each one.
Start here
Hilton's strength is a usable network with many routes to status
Hilton combines broad global coverage with status qualification by stays, nights or eligible spend. That flexibility makes it practical for travelers whose patterns do not fit a pure night threshold. The 2026 design also makes spend visible: a small number of expensive stays can qualify Gold or Diamond without first generating a historic Base-Point target.
The network is not uniform. Breakfast, food-and-beverage credit, lounge access, upgrades, bottled water and even base earning vary across brands and regions. Start with the precise property, its qualifying channel and the member's actual benefit choice. The Hilton name establishes the program; it does not establish the full stay experience.
- Use the current 2026 thresholds, not a cached 2025 chart.
- Check the property's brand and region before valuing Gold.
- Distinguish portfolio size from identical Honors participation.
Qualification
Eligible spend replaced Base Points as a status route
From January 1, 2026, Base Points remain the core redeemable earning measure but no longer qualify a member for status. Hilton now counts eligible US-dollar spend alongside stays and nights. That removes promotions, card earnings and point multipliers from the status calculation unless their terms supply a separate qualifying night or other credit.
Eligible spend is not always the final hotel bill. Taxes and excluded charges can fall away, and foreign-currency folios are converted under program rules. Use the account's progress meter and retain folios. If a high-cost stay is central to a status plan, confirm its rate eligibility before arrival rather than appealing after the year closes.
- Track stays, nights and eligible spend independently.
- Do not convert Base Points into a spend estimate for qualification.
- Request missing-stay review while records remain available.
Gold
Gold is a meal benefit with regional grammar
In the United States, eligible Gold and higher members usually receive a daily food-and-beverage credit at selected brands; outside the United States, selected brands generally provide continental breakfast. Motto follows its own global credit treatment. The benefit normally covers the member and one registered guest in the same room.
The credit is not cash, may expire daily and can be replaced when an eligible Executive Lounge provides breakfast seven days a week. Brands with breakfast included for every guest do not necessarily add a second meal benefit. Record the MyWay selection before arrival and verify the eligible outlets and posting method at check-in.
- Say credit or continental breakfast, not universal free breakfast.
- Register the second guest on the room.
- Charge eligible purchases to the room and review the folio before checkout.
Diamond
Lounge access is stronger than the upgrade promise
At eligible hotels with an Executive Lounge, Diamond generally receives access for the member and one registered guest even without an Executive Floor upgrade. That is a defined benefit, though many brands have no lounge. Premium Clubs are separate and reserved for Diamond Reserve under the current structure.
Diamond upgrades remain space-available and property-defined, up to a junior, standard or one-bedroom suite at participating brands. Executive suites, villas and specialty towers are excluded. A hotel can honor the terms with a preferred room rather than a suite, so the guide should never turn the ceiling into a promise.
- Confirm that the hotel has a qualifying Executive Lounge.
- Treat one-bedroom suite as an upper boundary, not an entitlement.
- Ordinary Diamond late checkout remains subject to availability.
Diamond Reserve
The new top tier always has a spend gate
Diamond Reserve requires either 40 stays or 80 nights and, in both cases, US$18,000 in eligible annual spend. Writing only 80 nights materially misstates the program. The tier adds a 120% point bonus, guaranteed 4 p.m. checkout at participating hotels, Premium Club access, dedicated service and a Confirmable Upgrade Reward.
The confirmed upgrade is precise rather than universal. It applies at a named set of brands, covers one room for a stay of up to seven nights and can reach an eligible one-bedroom suite when inventory is available. It expires after 12 months, and certain resorts or specialty accommodations are excluded. Check the live list before assigning a cash value.
- Show US$18,000 beside both qualification routes.
- Check 4 p.m. checkout exclusions before promising it.
- Use a Confirmable Upgrade Reward on a long, eligible stay when possible.
Awards
The fifth night is free only inside a standard all-points stay
Silver and above receive every fifth night free on a consecutive Standard Room Reward paid entirely with points. The benefit can remove the fifth, tenth, fifteenth and twentieth nights, for a maximum of four free nights in one stay. It can be used on multiple qualifying stays in a year.
Premium rooms, paid nights, Points & Money, card Free Night Rewards, packages and promotional combinations do not qualify. A mixed reservation does not become eligible because most nights use points. Search the complete stay as one all-points standard-room booking and confirm that the displayed total reflects the zero-point nights.
- Maintain one consecutive Standard Room Reward reservation.
- Do not insert a certificate into the five-night sequence.
- Compare five-night and four-night totals before adding an unnecessary stay.
Fees
All-points and Points & Money are not fee-equivalent
Hilton waives resort fees on qualifying stays paid entirely with points and on eligible promotional Free Night stays. That can improve value at resorts where the fee is a substantial nightly charge. The waiver is a reason to compare the complete cash total rather than the room rate alone.
Points & Money does not receive the same universal treatment. A small cash component can reintroduce the resort fee and make a superficially lower point price more expensive overall. Review the booking summary for taxes and property charges, and price the all-points alternative before committing.
- Include the cash resort fee in Points & Money calculations.
- Confirm that the booking is coded as an eligible reward stay.
- Retain the pre-arrival price breakdown if a fee posts incorrectly.
Sharing
Pooling works best around one bookable stay
Hilton permits one member and up to ten others to combine points without a fee. The points move into an existing member account rather than a separate joint account. Annual send, receive and transaction limits still apply, and new accounts must satisfy seasoning requirements.
Choose the booking account deliberately because reservation control, status benefits and cancellation handling follow it. Pool only after confirming the desired Standard Room Reward. A transfer solves an award-balance problem; it does not merge ownership, status or account histories.
- Use the account with the status that will actually be present on the stay.
- Confirm names and Honors numbers before sending.
- Keep within six transfer and six pooling transactions per year.
Eligibility
Direct-channel eligibility protects more than points
Hilton recognizes its own websites, app, reservation service and hotels, plus defined retail-agent bookings through designated GDS channels. Most OTAs, opaque sites, wholesalers and tour packages sit outside the qualifying path. Adding a number after booking does not rewrite the rate source.
The lost value can include Base Points, status progress, food credit, breakfast, upgrades, lounge access and digital benefits. Compare that bundle with the third-party saving. Separately, keep the account active within 24 months using an activity type the current terms expressly recognize; do not assume every marketplace redemption resets expiry.
- Verify both channel and rate eligibility.
- Retain confirmation and folio until the stay posts.
- Use a clearly qualifying activity before an expiry deadline.
Change log
What changed.
Homewood Suites and Spark moved to a 5x base rate
Point-eligible bookings made on or after this date earn 5 Base Points per eligible US dollar. Earlier qualifying bookings retain the former 10x rate under Hilton's transition language.
Eligible spend replaced Base Points for status qualification
Silver, Gold and Diamond can now be earned by stays, nights or eligible annual US-dollar spend. Base Points remain redeemable but no longer qualify a tier.
Diamond Reserve launched and rollover nights ended
The new tier requires US$18,000 spend plus either 40 stays or 80 nights. Excess 2025 nights could count in 2026, but no excess 2026 nights roll into 2027.
Lifetime Diamond gained a spend route
Ten completed Diamond years plus US$200,000 lifetime eligible spend now provides an alternative to the 1,000-night requirement.

Questions
What travelers ask.
Answers reflect the sources and review date above. Promotions, participation, and hotel delivery can change.
01What changed for Hilton Honors status in 2026?
Hilton replaced Base Points as a qualification route with annual eligible US-dollar spend, lowered or reset the published stay and night thresholds, introduced Diamond Reserve and ended new elite rollover nights. Excess 2025 nights could enter 2026, but excess 2026 nights do not enter 2027.
02Do Hilton Base Points still count toward status?
No. Since January 1, 2026, status is earned through eligible stays, nights or spend. Base Points remain redeemable and elite bonuses still multiply them, but the balance itself does not satisfy a tier threshold.
03How do I earn Diamond Reserve?
Complete either 40 stays and US$18,000 eligible spend, or 80 nights and US$18,000 eligible spend, in the calendar year. The spend requirement applies to both routes. Diamond status or 80 nights alone is insufficient.
04Will Hilton nights earned in 2026 roll into 2027?
No. Hilton ended new rollover-night earning on January 1, 2026. Eligible excess nights from 2025 could count in 2026, but excess nights accumulated during 2026 do not roll into 2027.
05Does Hilton Gold include free breakfast?
Not universally. In the United States, qualifying brands usually provide a daily food-and-beverage credit; outside the United States, selected brands generally offer continental breakfast. Motto follows a global credit model, and an Executive Lounge breakfast can replace the credit.
06Does Hilton Diamond guarantee a suite?
No. At eligible brands, Diamond can receive a space-available upgrade up to a junior, standard or one-bedroom suite. Executive suites, villas and specialty accommodations are excluded, and the hotel may provide another preferred room when no eligible suite is available.
07Who receives Hilton lounge access?
Diamond generally receives qualifying Executive Lounge access for the member and one registered guest where such a lounge exists. Gold receives lounge access only through the applicable room/benefit rules. Premium Club access is a Diamond Reserve benefit and has its own exclusions.
08How does Hilton's fifth-night-free benefit work?
Silver and higher members receive every fifth night free on one consecutive, all-points Standard Room Reward stay. It can remove as many as four nights in a 20-night stay. Paid nights, Premium Room Rewards, Points & Money and certificates do not qualify.
09Are resort fees waived on Hilton reward stays?
They are waived on qualifying all-points reward stays and eligible promotional Free Night stays. Points & Money does not receive the same universal waiver, so its full cash component and fees must be checked.
10Can Hilton Honors members pool points?
Yes. One member and up to ten contributors can pool for free. A member may send up to 500,000 and receive up to two million points annually across transfers and pooling, with six one-to-one transfers and six pool transactions per year. Account-age rules apply.
11When do Hilton Honors points expire?
After 24 consecutive months without eligible activity. Stays, qualifying partner or card earning, point purchases and donations are among the activities described by current Hilton materials. Do not rely on an unlisted redemption type without confirming the current terms.
12Will an OTA booking receive Hilton Honors benefits?
Most OTA, opaque, wholesale and non-designated travel-channel bookings are ineligible for points, status progress and on-property Honors benefits. Qualifying Hilton channels and specified retail-agent GDS bookings are safer; always verify the rate itself as well as the channel.
