Best Western Rewards
Low thresholds and points that do not expire suit infrequent travelers. Judge every hotel on its own merits.
At a glance
The short version.
Best Western Rewards pairs low elite thresholds with a portfolio of independently operated hotels. In 2026, Gold begins at five qualifying nights and Diamond Select at twenty-five. Points do not expire under current program terms.
Experiences vary across the portfolio. Award prices are dynamic, and the hotel, region, brand, rate, and local benefit delivery all matter. BWH describes about 4,300 hotels across more than 100 countries and territories. Some WorldHotels properties participate in Best Western Rewards, but participation is not universal.

A green check marks a participating brand. A dot means participation or benefits vary by property, region, collection, or stay type.
Before you book
BWH still markets an 18-brand portfolio in places, while current pages support 20 labels when @HOME and all five WorldHotels collections are included. WorldHotels participation is property-specific and WorldHotels Rewards remains a separate cross-network program.

2026 status
Low night thresholds, modest on-property benefits
Best Western published a night-based 2026 elite schedule. The point bonuses are clear; breakfast and room upgrades are not standard benefits. Judge status by the bonus, direct-rate access, and the limited arrival and timing benefits a participating hotel actually provides.
| Tier | Qualifying nights | Elite point bonus | Total earn at a 10-point brand |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue | Enrollment | None | 10 points per US$1 |
| Gold | 5 nights | 10% | 11 points per US$1 |
| Platinum | 7 nights | 15% | 11.5 points per US$1 |
| Diamond | 15 nights | 30% | 13 points per US$1 |
| Diamond Select | 25 nights | 50% | 15 points per US$1 |
Members who elect airline miles instead of Best Western points do not receive an elite bonus in points or miles. The totals shown assume a normal brand earning 10 base points per US$1.
Benefits
Published benefits, with the confidence level shown
The current consumer table and the September 2024 terms do not align perfectly. The point bonuses, elite reservation line, and bottled water appear in the terms. The 500 arrival points and early or late timing appear on the current benefit table but are not equally explicit in the governing document.
| Benefit | Published tier | Source confidence | Practical reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Points do not expire | All members | Terms and current table | Reliable while the account remains in good standing |
| Member rate | All members | Terms and current table | Direct rate advertised at 7% or more below Flexible Rate where offered |
| Water on arrival | Gold and above | Terms and current table | Property delivery can vary, particularly internationally |
| 500 arrival points | Gold and above | Current benefit table | Treat as currently advertised rather than a universal contractual guarantee |
| Early and late timing | Platinum and above | Current benefit table | Subject to availability and local participation |
| Dedicated reservation line | Elite members | Terms | Useful for reservations; it does not create inventory |
| Breakfast | No standard tier entitlement | Not published as a core elite benefit | Do not value status as if breakfast is included |
| Room upgrade | No standard tier entitlement | Not published as a core elite benefit | Any upgrade is property discretion or rate-specific |
Best Western states that points-related benefits may not be available at every international location. Confirm material benefits with the property before assigning them cash value.
Earning rules
Which stays and rooms qualify
Points are based on eligible room rate before taxes and fees, not the total hotel bill. Booking channel, rate type, brand, length of stay, occupancy, and payment can all change the result.
| Booking or charge | Typical treatment | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Direct eligible room rate | Earns base points and qualifying credit | Attach the member number and retain the rate description |
| Executive Residency, SureStay Studio, @HOME | 5 base points per US$1 | Do not apply the normal 10-point estimate |
| Incidental spend | Generally does not earn | Forecast from eligible room rate, not restaurant, parking, or other folio items |
| OTA, wholesale, tour, employee, crew rates | Generally ineligible | Third-party reservations also do not receive elite benefits |
| Certain discounted stays over 30 nights | Can be excluded | Confirm extended-stay eligibility before relying on status credit |
| Multiple rooms in US, Canada, Caribbean | Up to 10 rooms may earn | Member must occupy one, pay, and avoid duplicate awards |
| Multiple rooms elsewhere | Up to 3 rooms may earn | International participation and local posting can vary |
| Currency conversion | Eligible amount converted to US dollars | Best Western selects the conversion rate used for points |
Points normally post within seven business days. Missing-stay claims are accepted within six months, and a new member may request credit for an eligible stay completed up to thirty days before enrollment.
Redemption
Full award or a fixed Pay with Points credit
The two hotel redemption paths answer different questions. A full award is dynamically priced and can exceed or fall below the fixed comparison point. Pay with Points reduces the first night at exactly US$5 for each 1,000 points used.
| Feature | Full points night | Pay with Points |
|---|---|---|
| Point requirement | Dynamic 5,000–70,000 points | Minimum 5,000, then 1,000-point increments |
| Published value | No fixed value; use the live cash and points quote | 1,000 points = US$5, or 0.5 cents per point |
| Room | Standard room | Standard room at participating hotels |
| Multi-night use | Up to 7 consecutive points nights | Applies only to the first night of a multi-night reservation |
| Taxes and fees | Room and room taxes included; resort, parking, and incidental fees may remain | Cash rate and remaining charges follow the booking terms |
| Status and earning | Current table says points nights count toward status | Night counts and the cash portion earns points |
| Modification | Subject to the award reservation rules | Cannot be modified; cancel and rebook |
Calculate full-award value as cash room rate plus room taxes actually avoided, less unavoidable award-stay fees, divided by the points required. Compare that result with the official 0.5-cent Pay with Points rate; do not assign a universal value to full awards.
Exceptions
Rules most likely to change the result
| Issue | Current rule | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| No blackout dates | No formal excluded-date calendar | A standard award room and the required rate still must be available |
| Points-night status credit | Current benefit table says redeemed points nights count | Promotional Free Night Awards and certain special rates are treated separately in the terms |
| Point transfer | 1,000-point increments; 150,000 rolling-year maximum | Sender account generally 30 days old; transfers over 70,000 can be reviewed |
| Recipient address | Newer terms and gifting page allow a chosen recipient | An older FAQ still says both accounts need the same physical address |
| WorldHotels participation | Participating properties can use Rewards | Do not infer universal participation from WorldHotels branding |
| Best Western gift cards | WorldHotels are excluded from acceptance | Gift-card eligibility is narrower than possible Rewards participation |
| Airline earning preference | Available with participating carriers | Elite bonus points do not become bonus miles |
The current transfer page describes transfers as free and immediate. Because the address language conflicts across official pages, verify a cross-household transfer before moving a balance for a time-sensitive reservation.
How it works
Earning, status, and awards.
01 · Who it suits
Choose the hotel before the program.
Best Western, Plus, Premier, Executive Residency, Vīb, GLō, Aiden, Sadie, collection brands, and the SureStay family create a varied network of independently operated hotels. Quality and benefit delivery can vary, so review the exact hotel rather than treating a brand family as one standard product.
The official status match may cost less than booking extra nights. Status Match No Catch asks for competitor-status proof and assigns a corresponding tier under current thresholds. Use the official regional contact and verify the validity period before moving business.
02 · Earning
Most brands earn 10 points.
Most eligible stays earn 10 points per US dollar of qualifying room rate before taxes and fees after currency conversion. SureStay Studio, Executive Residency, and @HOME earn 5. Elite bonuses begin with the first qualifying night after status and range from 10% to 50%.
OTA, tour operator, wholesale, employee, and other excluded rates do not earn. Members choosing airline miles instead of Best Western points do not receive the elite points bonus, so the earn preference changes the value of status.
03 · Using points
The live hotel price decides the award.
Free-night awards are dynamically priced from 5,000 to 70,000 points by property and date and cover a standard room for up to seven consecutive nights. Room and room taxes are included, while resort, parking, incidental, and other charges can remain. No-blackout language does not create rooms after standard inventory is gone.
Pay with Points starts at 5,000 points and continues in 1,000-point increments at a published rate of US$5 per 1,000 points for an eligible one-night standard-room booking. In a multi-night itinerary it applies only to the first night; the eligible cash component earns points and status credit. Changes generally require canceling and rebooking.
04 · Status
Five nights earn Gold in 2026.
Five, seven, fifteen, and twenty-five nights reach the published 2026 tiers. Status earned in 2026 is stated to remain valid through December 31, 2027. That makes the official match and natural-stay path more attractive than an unnecessary mattress run.
Welcome gifts, arrival/departure flexibility, support lines, and recognition vary by region, property, and availability. Assign value only after confirming the exact participating hotel and benefit wording.
05 · Keeping points
Points do not expire.
Best Western Rewards points do not expire under current terms. Accounts and balances can still be closed or revoked for abuse, false information, duplicate accounts, or other violations, so nonexpiry is not an unconditional ownership guarantee.
Members can transfer points in 1,000-point increments within account-age, review, and rolling annual limits. Transfers above 70,000 can receive review, and the published rolling-year cap is 150,000. Partner airline ratios should always be checked live.
06 · Our take
A forgiving program for infrequent guests.
Low status thresholds, nonexpiring points, a formal status match, and member transfers remove several common frustrations. Best Western's portfolio can also fill gaps left by larger centrally branded chains.
The hotel experience is less predictable. Dynamic awards and independent operation call for careful research, and elite benefits rarely justify a large rate premium. Book when the reviews, location, cash price, and terms work for the trip. Treat status as a welcome extra.
Playbook
Earning and redemption, in practice.
Qualification, booking, and redemption call for different decisions. Here is how to handle each one.
01 · Before booking
Confirm the hotel, brand, and rate together
Best Western Rewards reaches independently owned hotels across many brands and markets. The logo on the building is only the first check. A participating hotel can still sell a rate that does not earn, and a WorldHotels property may sit outside the program. Open the exact property through Best Western and inspect the rate before making the loyalty calculation.
A direct member rate is generally the safest route to points and elite treatment. Retain the booking confirmation, rate name, cancellation rule, and member number. If the stay is long, discounted, or arranged for a crew or group, ask whether it qualifies before assuming the published base rate applies.
- Use the exact hotel page rather than a portfolio list.
- Confirm WorldHotels participation property by property.
- Avoid OTA, wholesale, tour, employee, and crew rates when credit matters.
- Save the rate terms until points and nights post.
02 · Earning
Begin with the room rate, then identify the brand
The usual calculation is ten points per US dollar of eligible room rate before taxes and fees. It is not ten points on the whole folio. Restaurant bills, parking, and other incidentals generally do not count. Best Western converts an eligible charge in another currency to US dollars at the rate it selects.
Three extended-stay-oriented brands—Executive Residency, SureStay Studio, and @HOME by Best Western—earn only five base points per dollar. Apply the elite percentage after choosing the correct base. A Diamond Select member therefore earns fifteen points per dollar at a normal ten-point brand, but only 7.5 points per dollar where the base is five.
- Separate eligible room rate from taxes, fees, and incidentals.
- Use a five-point base for the three named brands.
- Apply the elite bonus to base points, not the full bill.
- Allow for Best Western's US-dollar conversion on foreign stays.
03 · Status
The threshold is low; the benefit set is restrained
Five nights can produce Gold and twenty-five can produce Diamond Select under the 2026 schedule. Those thresholds are accessible, but they do not create a breakfast or suite-upgrade entitlement. The reliable economic benefit is the points bonus, supplemented by direct-rate access, reservation support, water, and currently advertised arrival or timing features.
Value only what the traveler will use. A 50% bonus at Diamond Select changes a normal earn from ten to fifteen points per dollar, not from ten to sixty. If the stay pattern is mostly at five-point brands or on ineligible rates, the incremental return is smaller. Do not choose a less suitable hotel solely to defend status.
- Use the 2026 night thresholds, not an older stay or point schedule.
- Do not budget for complimentary breakfast or upgrades.
- Calculate the bonus on the correct base earn.
- Status earned in 2026 is advertised through December 31, 2027.
04 · Status match
Ask before completing qualifying nights
Best Western continues to publish Status Match…No Catch. A member with current status in another hotel program can submit proof and request an equivalent Best Western tier, subject to the offer's documentation and regional rules. In 2026 the matched status is advertised as valid through December 2027.
A match can be more efficient than directing stays toward a threshold, but it should be completed before the trip. Wait for written confirmation, confirm the tier in the account, and then evaluate whether the participating hotel offers any material elite treatment. A status label that posts after checkout cannot repair a missed on-property benefit.
- Submit a current status statement or card through the official channel.
- Confirm regional eligibility and the granted tier.
- Wait for the account update before arrival.
- Keep the match confirmation with the reservation record.
05 · Redemption
Let the live award compete with a fixed credit
A full points night can cost from 5,000 to 70,000 points, depending on the property and date. Its value is the room rate and room taxes avoided, less fees that still apply, divided by the points. ‘No blackout dates’ removes a formal date list but does not require a hotel to release a standard award room on every night.
Pay with Points offers a published comparison: each 1,000 points reduces the price by US$5. That is 0.5 cents per point, beginning at 5,000 points. A full award is more efficient when its live value is comfortably higher; Pay with Points can be useful when the full award is poor or the traveler wants to reduce, rather than eliminate, the first night's cash price.
- Use the same room, cancellation terms, and taxes for the cash comparison.
- Subtract resort, parking, or destination fees that remain on an award.
- Compare the result with the official 0.5-cent Pay with Points rate.
- Do not force a weak redemption because points do not expire.
06 · Partial payment
Pay with Points changes only the first night
Pay with Points is available at selected hotels for a standard room, with a 5,000-point minimum and 1,000-point increments. On a multi-night reservation, the credit applies only to the first night. The rest of the stay remains priced under the cash booking, so the headline reduction can look larger than its effect on the total trip.
The reservation cannot be modified. A change requires cancellation and rebooking at the rates and inventory then available. The night counts toward status, and the cash portion earns points, which distinguishes it from a full award. Confirm the property offers the option before transferring points or adjusting a trip around it.
- Model the credit against the full stay, not only night one.
- Check that the selected property offers Pay with Points.
- Treat a date change as cancel-and-rebook.
- Expect points only on the eligible cash portion.
07 · Award nights
A points night and a promotional free night are not identical
The current benefit table says redeemed points nights count toward elite status. Best Western's terms separately exclude certain promotional Free Night Awards and special rates from qualifying treatment. The word ‘free’ can therefore describe two products with different rules: a room bought with points and a certificate issued by a promotion.
Check the reservation type in the confirmation. If status credit matters, save the page showing that a points redemption was made and verify the night after checkout. A promotional certificate should be judged on its own terms, including date, hotel, room, and qualification restrictions.
- Identify whether payment used points or a promotional certificate.
- Read the certificate's own conditions.
- Do not assume both products count toward status.
- Retain the redemption record until the account updates.
08 · Transfers
Resolve the address conflict before moving points
Current terms and the gifting page allow a member to transfer points to a recipient of choice in 1,000-point increments. The sender's account generally must be at least thirty days old, transfers above 70,000 points can be reviewed, and the rolling twelve-month maximum is 150,000 points. The current gifting page describes the process as free and immediate.
An older Best Western FAQ still says the accounts must share a physical address. That unresolved first-party conflict matters when two households are consolidating for a specific award. Contact Best Western before relying on the transfer, record the answer, and leave time for manual review instead of moving points at the award deadline.
- Confirm the recipient's member number and current address rules.
- Transfer in 1,000-point increments.
- Expect review above 70,000 points.
- Track the 150,000-point rolling-year limit.
09 · After the stay
Check the posting before six months pass
Best Western says eligible points normally post within seven business days. Compare the credited US-dollar base, brand earn rate, elite bonus, and qualifying night with the booking and folio. A five-point brand, foreign-currency conversion, multiple-room stay, or ineligible incidental can explain a result that differs from a simple total-bill estimate.
If the stay is missing, submit the claim within six months. A traveler who was not yet enrolled can request retroactive credit for an eligible stay completed within thirty days before joining. Keep the itemized folio and direct confirmation; a card receipt alone does not establish the rate or booking channel.
- Wait the stated seven business days before treating a stay as missing.
- Recalculate with the correct five- or ten-point brand base.
- Submit missing-stay evidence before the six-month deadline.
- For a new member, use the thirty-day retroactive window promptly.
Change log
What changed.
Night-based elite thresholds and extended validity
The current 2026 schedule sets Gold at five nights, Platinum at seven, Diamond at fifteen, and Diamond Select at twenty-five. Status earned during 2026 is advertised through December 31, 2027.
More Nights, Less Points promotion
Eligible Diamond and Diamond Select members booking at least five consecutive all-points nights outside the United States, Canada, and Caribbean can receive a refund of the lowest-priced points night. This is a dated promotion, not an evergreen fifth-night-free rule.
First @HOME by Best Western opened
The first @HOME property opened as BWH expanded the extended-stay portfolio. @HOME earns five base points per US dollar rather than the usual ten, so brand identification changes the earning forecast.
WorldHotels Backdrop launched
BWH announced the WorldHotels Backdrop collection. The launch is a portfolio development, not evidence that every property in the collection participates in Best Western Rewards; property-level verification remains necessary.

Questions
What travelers ask.
Answers reflect the sources and review date above. Promotions, participation, and hotel delivery can change.
01How many nights are required for Best Western status in 2026?
The published 2026 thresholds are five qualifying nights for Gold, seven for Platinum, fifteen for Diamond, and twenty-five for Diamond Select. Status earned during 2026 is advertised as valid through December 31, 2027. Use eligible nights rather than an older points-or-stays chart.
02How many points does a stay earn?
Most participating brands earn ten base points per US dollar of eligible room rate before tax and fees. Executive Residency, SureStay Studio, and @HOME by Best Western earn five. Elite bonuses are 10%, 15%, 30%, and 50% from Gold through Diamond Select and apply to the base points.
03Which bookings qualify?
A direct eligible room rate is the dependable choice. OTA, wholesale, tour-operator, employee, crew, motorcoach, and several net or deeply discounted rates are excluded. Certain discounted stays longer than thirty nights can also be ineligible. Confirm unusual rates with Best Western before the stay.
04Do Best Western points expire?
Best Western states that Rewards points do not expire. They can still be forfeited if the member closes the account or the program acts for fraud, abuse, or another terms violation. No-expiration status means a member can wait for a better redemption rather than accepting a weak one.
05Does every WorldHotels property participate?
No. The program covers participating WorldHotels properties, not the entire portfolio. Check the exact hotel on Best Western's current booking and Rewards pages. Best Western gift cards have a separate limitation and exclude WorldHotels even where a property may otherwise participate in Rewards.
06What does ‘no blackout dates’ mean?
It means Best Western does not publish a calendar of dates when all awards are prohibited. A hotel still needs an eligible standard room and award rate available. Capacity controls and live inventory can therefore leave no bookable award on a desired date.
07How much is a full award night worth?
There is no fixed value because a full award costs 5,000–70,000 points dynamically. Divide the cash room rate and room taxes avoided, less fees that remain on the award, by the points required. Compare the result with the official Pay with Points rate of 0.5 cents per point.
08How does Pay with Points work?
At participating hotels, a member uses at least 5,000 points and then 1,000-point increments. Each 1,000 points reduces the first night's price by US$5. Only the first night of a multi-night booking receives the credit. The cash portion earns points, the night counts for status, and changes require cancellation and rebooking.
09Are award taxes and fees included?
A full points night covers the room rate and room taxes under the published FAQ. Resort, destination, parking, incidental, and other property charges can remain. Compare the final cash checkout amount, not just a zero room rate, when evaluating an award.
10Can Best Western points be transferred?
Current terms allow transfers in 1,000-point increments after the sender account has generally been open thirty days, with review possible above 70,000 points and a 150,000-point rolling-year limit. The current gifting page says free and immediate, while an older FAQ retains a same-address rule. Verify cross-household eligibility before depending on it.
11Do award nights count toward elite status?
The current benefit table says nights redeemed with points count toward status. Promotional Free Night Awards and certain special rates are addressed separately in the terms and may not qualify. Confirm whether the reservation is a points redemption or a promotional certificate.
12Does Best Western include breakfast or upgrades for elite members?
Neither breakfast nor a room upgrade is a standard published elite entitlement. Current materials advertise water and 500 arrival points for Gold and above, and availability-based early and late timing for Platinum and above. The latter benefits are clearer on the consumer table than in the governing terms, so confirm locally.
